Jingle your bells and roast your chestnuts on an open fire – Christmas is almost here! And with it comes the last SVM news roundup of 2017. This has been an unbelievably fast year which has seen us enter into projects with high profile new companies and carry out some of our most challenging works to date for highly valued clients who have been on the Christmas list for years. As fast as it has been – we have certainly packed a lot into 12 months.
This December we have been almost as busy as the man in red, with several new projects appearing under the tree such as some HV survey works in the Inverness area; new shore supplies design and platform lighting works at Haymarket Station in Edinburgh. Also this month, we have seen a surge in commercial projects having been approached for EPC works for high end car showrooms; three separate residential schemes; a primary school in the South of England and an office fit out in good old Glasgow city centre. All of this makes for an excellent selection box of projects at this time of year.
Ongoing projects this December include design works at Kings Cross station in London, multiple stages of works associated with the high profile Queen St refurbishment project and lighting renewals at railway sites in the South of England. Works at Stirling Station are still in progress both revolving around the temporary ticket office and station bridge; while a short sleigh ride away we are still undertaking survey and design works at several station car park sites. Across the South of England we are still involved with design for a station in Liverpool; a large scale project in the Bradford area; shore supplies near Reading; and ASPs at another station near London. Waverley Station remains on the Christmas list with multiple projects including IECC design, our ongoing PE role and site supervision for various non-complex designs while the Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa project continues to be a strong presence. Projects at Dundee Station, Partick Station and a well-known Glasgow Rail Depot are still ongoing while heading North towards the pole, we are eager to start new works at Pitlochry and Aviemore. In the same area we remain involved with Aberdeen and Inverness Depots and various facets of the Highland Mainline renewals, while also keeping an eye on a swing bridge in the Fort William area. In Prestwick we are closing out some containment design at the NATS office while our works associated with the ECML and WCML and AFA works are nearing completion. There continues to be room for commercial projects at the SVM Christmas table with works continuing on the building that houses the world famous Burrell Collection; a business park in the Greenock area and CAD 3D models for education suites.
Everybody was feeling festive the other week when we embarked on our Christmas lunch, which, this year, made a return to Sapporo Teppanyaki and various upmarket wine bars and hostelries where behaviour was never anything less than gentlemanly! This week sees us finishing up for the year with the office closing on Friday 22nd December for the duration of the festive period and reopening on Wednesday 3rd January. As always we would like to thank all our clients and collaborators for another successful year and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
