Welcome to 2018 and a Happy New Year to all of our clients and collaborators. It’s been a tough January with heavy snow and the worst flu outbreak in several years but everyone in SVM is fighting fit and ready to tackle what promises to be a very busy and challenging year ahead.
New projects making an early 2018 arrival including some return visits to subsequent phases of projects with which we have already had a successful involvement. These include AFA works at Kilmarnock; design revolving around the retail supplies at Glasgow Central Station and further lighting survey works at Haymarket Depot in Edinburgh – a very familiar site in the SVM portfolio. We have also just been instructed to begin works on a large scale Railway project in the London area and we are awaiting the beginning of some significant design works at a Railway site in the Robroyston area of Glasgow. Not on the Railway, this month has also seen us begin to look at conversion works for an existing building into an office in Dundee and design of ventilation installation at a site in Glasgow’s Broomielaw.
The ongoing projects keeping us most busy in January include a lighting renewals project in the Kent area; design works at Kings Cross Station in London; several aspects of the Highland Mainline renewals; and newly begun survey and design works at Pitlochry and Aviemore. We are looking into several new shore supplies projects at various sites across the Country including Inverness, Edinburgh and Reading; while works at Stirling Station are still in progress both revolving around the temporary ticket office and station bridge. Surveys continue to be carried out for multiple station car parks and for some HV design in the Inverness area on top of ongoing design works at Aberdeen and Inverness depots, which are now drawing near completion. We are still frequent visitors to main station sites that now feel like home after so many years with various design projects ongoing at Queen St Station while multiple works at Waverley Station are still in progress including IECC design, our PE role and site supervision for various non-complex designs. We are still heavily involved in works South of the Border with design for a station in Liverpool; a large scale project in the Bradford area; and ASPs at another station near London. Small scale projects at Dundee Station, Partick Station and a well-known Glasgow Rail Rail Depot continue to require our attention as does the large scale project covering Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa. Rail projects approaching departure this month include the large ECML and WCML projects and also multiple sites for which we have provided AFA design. Commercial projects are also healthy this month with a business park in the Greenock area; multiple housing schemes requiring building services design; and EPC works for high end car showrooms. We are still undertaking works for a primary school in the South of England; an office fit out nearby in Glasgow city centre and, of course – everybody’s favourite, CAD 3D models for further education suites.
SVM have got high hopes for 2018 – as always – and there is already a lot going on. If you thing you would like to be a part of it all, we are recruiting for an Assistant Mechanical Engineer and an Electrical Engineer so send your CV to Elise McLean at firstname.lastname@example.org and maybe you can be part of the team. It’s going to be a big year.
