Despite the objections of the weather, Spring is now in full swing and SVM are growing a healthy crop of new projects among our already well-established works. The late May bank holiday weekend is fast approaching but SVM is still hard at work delivering several projects before the summer finally arrives.

May has seen a diverse range of new projects springing up in the SVM office including looking at a fault analysis case in the Fraserburgh area and undertaking surveys and report production for a Glasgow city centre office building. Also in the commercial sector, we have become involved in a project at a car showroom in Darnley and summer refurbishment works at multiple higher education facilities. Our old friend the Railway has, of course, not forgotten us with two new projects arising this month; one involving works at stations near Aberdeen and Stirling and another concerning lighting at a busy depot.

Big projects still in progress this month are the design for an oil related manufacturing development at Heartlands, Scottish Borders Rail and design works at a busy signalling centre. All of these works are extensive and making good headway with many deliverables already achieved. Still with the Railway, we are also continuing with our works on various railway sites across Lincolnshire; at stations in Blairhill, and Elgin; and we have begun the new phase of the Motherwell North Signalling Renewals project. Smaller schemes include a level crossing light installation; further tunnel lighting works; a new railway scheme close to Paisley St James and lighting works at Partick station. In Glasgow city centre we are still involved in works at an old cinema property and at a prestigious hotel, while in the North of the city we have undertaken design works for some commercial premises.

It’s also fitting that Spring ushers some new blood into the SVM office and this month has seen the arrival of our newest staff member. Ben Reid joins us as assistant mechanical engineer and we are all very pleased to welcome him to the team. There’s still time for the right candidate to fill a seat next to him so if that sounds comfortable please forward your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk – there might just be room!
