August News!
/We’re sliding into the back half of another year with August practically over and all the summer holidays coming to an end once again. Still, this just means that everyone at SVM is recharged and ready to delve into some exciting projects as we head full-speed towards the end of the summer.
August has been a big month for new projects at SVM, with initial enquiries for schemes such as points heating works at Westerton Station; design for D&P signal boxes; and pit lighting at Inverness; while we have already begun works for a second group of Accelerated Network sites and ventilation design for a transformer enclosure that will see deliveries across the globe. Transpennine Express have involved us in refurbishment works to their staff facilities in further locations in Glasgow and Hull; and AFA projects continue to prove popular as we have begun works related to the temporary power supplies at Carstairs, Dumfries and Anniesland. South of the border works are underway for CET design in Carmarthen; shore supplies in sunny Scarborough; and, away from the Railway, we have been instructed to undertake design for a waste transfer facility in Helensburgh.
Existing projects that are keeping us busiest this month are led by wheel lathe design in Clacton; mechanical design at Motherwell MDU; works at Shields Depot; and retail refurbishment at Caledonia Chambers. Ongoing works remain busy across the country with Inverness panel scope design and train crew accommodation, surveys on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route; water pipe diversion works in Dundee; Aldclune Level Crossing; and design for Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie in the North. Meanwhile, heading into the Central Belt, we continue to be kept busy with large scale projects covering East Kilbride electrification works; GRIP 4 and 5 design works at Levenmouth and Portobello; LEV design for engineering; CET/water facilities at multiple sites; and design for vending machines at various ScotRail locations. New CET works at Craigentinny Depot are now well underway, as are those for a new drying room serving a Glasgow City Centre location; while AFA works are nearing completion at Anniesland, Balgray and Uddingston. Containment works at Singer are making good progress as are those for Yoker Bridge deck and Clydebank remedials; meanwhile Depot works continue to flourish with feeder protection upgrades; design for fuel control panels; heating, air-con and boiler replacement works at Motherwell; and DPS works at Broomloan. The main Edinburgh and Glasgow Stations are also abuzz this month with Waverley hosting projects covering concourse lighting, calorifier design; digital advertising boards; distribution design and the signalling centre. Meanwhile, across the country, Glasgow Central is home to electrical surveys, water tank works and design for junction lighting; and Queen Street ticket office works are ongoing. We remain busy as we head further South with works for Ayr Station including the booking office; platform water heating and re-energisation; Troon station which is approaching the end of its construction phase; water tank design at Dumfries; design at Prestwick Railway Station; and Kirkconnel life extension works. August has also seen works sizzling across the rest of the UK with Transpennine Express works in Newcastle and York; replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites; and various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park covering road jacking, 10 car stabling, engine drop and depot protection services. Goole swing bridge works are ongoing, as are tunnel works in West Yorkshire; while reactive assistance for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin routes, and Birmingham and Euston Stations continues. Works in Selhurst for both an REB and wheel lathe are ongoing; and we continue to edge closer to the completion of works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route; and Bangor to Colwyn Bay.
The commercial sector also plays an important part this month with survey and reporting works for a power station site in Dounreay, Building Control acceptance for a commercial unit in Dumfries, and design support for works at an ophthalmic day theatre in Cambridge. We continue to provide design advice for an office refurbishment in Kilsyth; and we are just getting started on extensive works associated with the expansion of Stranraer marina.
We hope that all of our clients and collaborators are enjoying the summer and it seems unbelievable that we are already at the threshold of Autumn once again. The expanded team here at SVM are coming together wonderfully and we look forward to making the last half of the year as productive as possible.
