December News!

And so SVM Glasgow’s 10th anniversary year draws to a close in a burst of new projects, ongoing large scale works and a flurry of successful Christmas deliveries – which is right where we love to be.  We celebrated our ten year milestone back in Spring and, although it seems like yesterday, we have accomplished a lot in the time since.  Indeed, to some of us, our inception in 2009 still feels just as recent and the strides we have made in those 10 years are incredible; with award winning projects, staff growth, becoming RISQS accredited and more.  It is only through our strong relationships with our highly valued clients that we have been able to go from strength to strength and we would like to thank each and every one of you once again.  We’re looking forward to seeing what the ‘20s’ bring!

Even as 2019 reaches its end, there are still several new projects arriving with Santa that we can look forward to in the New Year.  We have been asked to look at some tunnel lighting control on the Glasgow subway; Edinburgh IECC have called us back for some alarm related design; and shore supplies are this year’s biggest Christmas toy with various schemes being priced at locations across the country.  Some electrical design is being undertaken at a railway site in Blackpool; railway design works at Reston and East Linton are getting underway; and we have made a return to Leuchars Station for some further design.

Already settled in for Christmas this month are Waverley Station with projects for concourse lighting and design for the toilets; various works at Glasgow Central station including DBs and LCPs, retail and operational supplies; and LNER station surveys.  650V power supplies in Wellingborough and Sharnbrook are making good progress while new CP6 AFA schemes are getting underway at multiple sites across the central belt.  Retail surveys have been undertaken at Stirling and Dundee stations; while we have begun to look at lub oil issues and footbridge lighting at two other Railway properties in Craigentinny and Falkirk respectively.  Depot protection design has now begun as have CRE duties at a Glasgow Depot.  Bristol is still in full flow in December as are renewal works from Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie; rationalisation works in the Carstairs area; and water compliance issues at multiple railway sites in Glasgow.  Design for staff accommodation at Ayr and Arbroath stations is ongoing as are provision of design advice for FED power supplies and the final stages of the containment works for the Glasgow Subway.  Heading in the direction of the North Pole we have various works in Inverness including rail yard design and underframe wash works; while Highland Mainline, Banavie Swing Bridge, HEP East and Caledonian Sleeper stabling facilities are all making headway.  To the South, we remain involved with the station concourse works at Doncaster; further stages of works for the escalators at Birmingham New Street station; and ongoing miscellaneous works in Birmingham and London Euston.  As always, we still continue to service a host of smaller scale projects across the UK railway covering several areas such as potable water supplies, shore supplies, fuel road design, drainage works, HST servicing, modular accommodation, temporary bonding, compressors; boiler replacements; car park services design, CETs, EVCP design, retail enhancements and Access for All works.  Our involvement in the commercial sector continues to be healthy with large projects ongoing for Scottish lighthouses – including our most distant project to date at Sumburgh Head - with works including EPCs, surveys, controls, turbines and renewal issues surrounding the mercury baths supporting Fresnel lenses.  Meanwhile, bridge design in Goole and provision of design advice for Glasgow’s Tidal weir is also progressing well.  We remain involved with a water treatment site in the Cupar area and are still providing technical reinstatement advice following fires at St Andrew’s University and a luxury countryside hotel.  Office refurbishment works are continuing in Finnieston, Liverpool and East Kilbride; while EVCP installations in Blantyre and water distribution issues in Bearsden remain with us into the New Year.

Our Christmas night out has fallen rather late this year and is due the weekend before Christmas.  A tasteful evening is planned with lunch at Miller and Carter followed by drinks in the ever classy Merchant City,  We’ve almost made it to the end of the year and the office will be closed from Tuesday 24th December until we return refreshed on Friday 3rd January.  Once again we would like to wish all of our clients and collaborators a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  We’re sure that together we can make next year even better!.  If you are looking for a new you for the new year (and you have consultancy/rail experience) please submit your CV to Elise McLean, elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and make 2020 exciting!
