January News!
/Happy New Year and welcome back to all our clients, collaborators and colleagues who have managed to survive the festive season. While the holidays are now a fading memory, everyone at SVM is recharged and eager to tackle whatever 2023 has in store and it is already looking busy!
2023 is off to a great start with plenty of new opportunities already arising in the first month of the year. So far we have submitted prices for a variety of works such as design for tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire; further Railway AFA works at a Glasgow station and a site in Dundee; design for a station booking office in Ayrshire; and commercial works for premises in a Dundee industrial estate. We are fit and able to take on all of these challenges and we look forward to further client instructions.
As well as these, there are plenty of ongoing projects continuing into the New Year with us. These are headed by Bangor to Colwyn Bay design; Goole Swing Bridge (now entering GRIP 6 to 8 stages); separate designs for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; and large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route. Closest to home, we continue to be involved with LLPA design for multiple Railway sites in the Glasgow area; genset works at Atrium court, CET design at and boiler replacements at Craigentinny Depot; and design for executive suites in some nearby Glasgow Railway offices. Multiple works covering various aspects such as the DHL and substations are underway at Cadder Yard while there has been excellent progression with Cathcart platform lighting; Carstairs Rationalisation; Port Glasgow AFA; ticket vending machine design across multiple sites; and Motherwell Station boiler replacement. Station works are in full swing at the big ones in Glasgow and Edinburgh with works including design advice for power supplies; work on the ScotRail simulators; retail supplies; retail units design; ventilation; and design for Superloos. To the North of the Country we are continuing to provide design advice for works on the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route; the Dalcross GRIP 4 project; construction phase works at Aberdeen Station; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters; and a railway simulator. Heading towards the border we remain involved with station refurbishment works in Troon; remedial works at several West Coast Stations; and CRE duties for Millerhill and Heaton Depots. England is another busy place for us with additional projects covering compact PSPs; lighting at Hessle Station; and a subway pump in Goole; while we remain reactive on long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations. design near Widnes; and shed extension works in Tysley.
In the commercial sector, we are also starting the year strong with design works underway at a farmhouse in Johnston; an office refurbishment in Kilsyth and a biomass site in Portree. We have undertaken preparatory works for a potential scheme across several Scottish lighthouses; while we are approaching the end of works related to the ash lagoons in Valleyfield created following the closure of Longannet Power Station in 2016.
We are looking forward to a challenging selection of new opportunities this year and we are always happy to hear from any enthusiastic engineers with Railway based electrical and mechanical design experience in a consultancy/contractor setting to join the fun. So if you are interested in becoming part of the team and getting involved in projects like those above, then please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. It could be the best New Year’s resolution you’ve ever made!
