July News!

We’ve now broken through the half way point of the year and are heading into the back half of 2019 but there is no sign of slowing down in the SVM office.  We have passed our annual RISQS audit again with flying colours and are all set up for the challenging projects that promise to give us an exciting ride to the end of the year.

Projects joining us this July include water compliance works at three Railway Depots and further works on the Goole Swing Bridge project – which has quickly become one of our most fascinating and engrossing projects to date.  Meanwhile, this has been a good month for the commercial sector with our involvement being requested at a high end office building in Aberdeen and in providing building services advice following a fire at a luxury hotel in the beautiful Scottish countryside.  Also this month we’re entering a wider territory by looking into survey works for wind turbines and controls at remote lighthouse locations – a project that will take us to some very far flung and picturesque corners of the country.

Our summer blockbusters this year include the current stage of works at the Goole Swing Bridge, the HEP East package, design works for retail and operational supplies at Glasgow Central Station and the beginnings of two more recent projects involving bonding and protection of shore supplies and FED power supplies.  The Highland Mainline extension programme is continuing as are the containment works with the Glasgow Subways and various design works in the Carstairs area.  There has been significant movement on the HVAC design at Allerton and lighting design in Doncaster Station Concourse; while works for the Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa and EGIP projects are nearing completion.  South of the border we are still in the final throes of works on the London to Corby Route and the Huddersfield to Bradford route while design is ongoing at locations in Birmingham and about to start in Bristol.  Our involvement with underframe wash works in Inverness and staff accommodation at a station in Ayr remain ongoing as does design for the bridges at Stilring Station.  As always there are plenty of smaller scale projects in full flow at various depots and stations around the country and these cover a multitude of areas including potable water supplies, shore supplies, fuel road design, drainage works, LV testing, HST servicing, sump pumps, modular accommodation, high mast lighting, fuelling apron, roof works, temporary stabling, temporary bonding, compressors; boiler replacements; car park services design, ticket office design, CETs, CP6 Building Upgrades, CIS design, EVCP design, lighting design, LED replacements, platform extension, retail supplies, retail enhancements and Access for All works.  This summer still sees plenty of non-railway projects in the line-up with design for the Tidal Weir continuing; provision of design advice for water distribution issues in Bearsden; education facilities in Ayr and Wales; EVCP issues in Blantyre and reinstatement advice following fire damage at St Andrew’s University.  We remain involved with a high rise office building in Glasgow’s rapidly developing Finnieston area and continue to await the beginning of design works in an iconic Glasgow hotel with which we have been involved intermittently for the last six years while CAD 3D models for education suites continue to proceed.

It’s all go in the SVM office so who could blame us for wanting to take just a little holiday?  Jet-setting season is upon us with various staff members heading off to exciting locations such as Norway for the midnight sun, Dubai, Malta and Barcelona and we wish all of our staff, collaborators and clients a very happy and safe holiday when their time comes!  As always it will be 100% business as usual in the SVM office but – while there’s a temporary empty seat on the go – if you want to be a part of this fast paced and challenging environment and have consultancy/rail experience submit your CV to Elise McLean, elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and let the sun shine!
