April News!

Who can believe that, since our last update, we have seen the end of another financial year and are now well into the beginning of a new one?  2021-2022 was another challenging period for everybody but, through the hard work of everyone at SVM Glasgow, it has been another successful and productive year.  We wish all our clients, colleagues and collaborators the best at this time and hope that it’s been a Happy Easter!

This month has seen plenty of new projects arriving, including remedial works at Singer, Stranraer and Highland stations, which are a continuation from survey works already carried out by SVM.  Rectification works at multiple sites for the Railway are just beginning to take shape, as are those associated with a further Railway Simulator in Inverness; a scheme associated with the DHL at Cadder; and watermain issues at Millerhill.  Still at the pricing stage we have Railway works in the Clacton area; lighting design works near Middlesbrough; and, away from the Railway, works across several Scottish lighthouses and electrical design for a project in Barbados!

April has been a big month for our large scale projects, the foremost of these being Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; the construction phase of works at Aberdeen Station; Goole Swing Bridge works; and the new phase of works on the Rugeley to Colwich route.  Other projects that have been busy in April include design for sidings in the Millerhill area; depot design near Widnes; CETs at Fort William Depot; and retail units at Network Rail properties.  Edinburgh and Glasgow major stations are full of activity as usual with projects including gas supplies; ventilation, and design for superloos at the former and power supplies; lighting DB design; work on the ScotRail simulators; and design for the passenger management centre at the latter.  In the North of the country we are making progress with works involving Workstations and Axle Counters at Inverness and; Dalcross GRIP 4 works, while returning South we have healthy ongoing projects at Reston Station; Carstairs Rationalisation; and Edinburgh Control Centre Renewals.  We are looking at ticket vending machine design across multiple sites and station ‘Access for All’ works are still booming with sites at Selby, Croy, Johnston, Port Glasgow and Reston.  A range of works covering accommodation design; departure roads, drainage and points converters are making good progress across Scotland’s Depots as are those for DBs at Cathcart; frost protection; fluid dispensing works at Haymarket; and design for platform water heaters in Ayrshire.  Meanwhile, we continue to await the green light on a scheme based around the Aberdeen to Central Belt route and mechanical design for a SFC which will hopefully get underway in the coming weeks.

England is a great place to be for SVM this April too, with ongoing reactive works for VAMOS level crossings Birmingham Station and 650V feeders renewal in Middlesbrough and Whitehouse.  Additional design for the London to Corby Route and the new phase of works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route are both making good progress while Whitley Bay prepares to get underway soon.

Works in the commercial sector remain healthy this month with works related to the ash lagoons in Valleyfield created following the closure of Longannet Power Station in 2016; provision of expert advice following a fire in a Glasow University building; and office refurbishment at a business park in Musselburgh.
