May News!
/Summer is definitely on its way and this year we even have the tentative prospect of a holiday on the cards! It feels like its been a long time and we hope that any of our clients or collaborators who are jetting off for a long awaited break this summer have a safe, happy holiday and make the most of the sun.
New projects passing through arrivals this month at SVM are mostly located at sites with which we are already very familiar. As such, there are works associated with the LMD CETs at Craigentinny Depot; design for a relay room in the Perth area; shore supplies design at Crewe; and remedial works at Paisley Gilmour Street Station and Burntisland. Meanwhile we continue to await the beginning of a scheme based around the Aberdeen to Central Belt route and mechanical design for a SFC. We are also in the pricing stages for works as far flung as Darlington and Crewe, which only extend our already busy portfolio South of the Border. Railway works at Clacton are awaiting the go-ahead as are some interesting design works across several Scottish lighthouses, a primary school in Moray and electrical design for a project in Barbados!
Our existing projects certainly remain active this month with Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; Goole Swing Bridge works; and the new phase of works on the Rugeley to Colwich route all making excellent progress. Whitley Bay prepares to get underway soon and, rounding out our projects in England, are the large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route, depot design near Widnes and additional design for London to Corby. Meanwhile works for VAMOS level crossings, Birmingham Station and 650V feeders renewal in Middlesbrough and Whitehouse remain reactive. Back to the North, the central belt is a hub of activity for SVM with remedial works at multiple stations; a scheme associated with the DHL at Cadder; and design at Millerhill Depot which includes both the sidings and water main issues. Edinburgh and Glasgow major stations remain lively with projects including gas supplies; ventilation, and design for superloos at the former and power supplies; lighting DB design; work on the ScotRail simulators; and design for the passenger management centre at the latter. Carstairs Rationalisation; ticket vending machine design across multiple sites, and Edinburgh Control Centre Renewals continue to keep us busy as do Railway Depots with works encompassing accommodation design; departure roads, drainage and points converters. AfA works are still proving a significant focus within the railway with SVM currently involved in schemes at Selby, Croy, Johnston, Reston and Port Glasgow. We are also happy to continue servicing several small scale works including DBs at Cathcart; frost protection; fluid dispensing works at Haymarket; and design for platform water heaters in Ayrshire. Projects continue all the way to the North of the country with important steps being taken on the construction phase of works at Aberdeen Station; CETs at Fort William Depot; a further Railway Simulator in Inverness; retail units at Network Rail properties; Inverness Workstations and Axle Counters; and Dalcross GRIP 4 works,
The commercial sector continues to hold its own next to the Railway schemes with works related to the ash lagoons in Valleyfield created following the closure of Longannet Power Station in 2016; provision of expert advice following a fire in a Glasow University building; and office refurbishment at a business park in Musselburgh.
Everyone is taking strides forward in the SVM office this month as we’ve welcomed back the first in-office lunchtime CPD sessions since before the pandemic, more University years have been completed by multiple staff and training has been undertaken for PTS and first aid.
