August 2018 News!
/August has been an interesting month in Glasgow with the European Championship events taking place across the City. However, while the runners and bicycles have been speeding by on their road races, SVM have been keeping firmly focussed on more mechanical methods of travel as Railway and transportation hubs across the country continuing to play a large part in our exciting portfolio.
New projects in the Railway industry have been steadily arising during August with two projects getting underway at Carstairs MDU; another at Shettleston MDU and boiler works at two further Glasgow Depots. We are approaching the beginning of design at an Ayrshire station and also some interesting works regarding flood warning telemetry at a Railway site. We have also seen a lot of new works South of the border this month with design being requested for two more Railway Depots in the Liverpool and Worcester areas and various works along lines running through London. The commercial sector is never to be forgotten and August has found us in the early stages of providing some design advice for a residential project in Edinburgh.
Seeing us right through the summer this month are surveys and reports for EVCPs, containment survey works for Glasgow’s subway stations; various projects associated with the Highland Mainline extension programme and Grip 5 works for the London to Corby route which heads Northwards from London. In stations across the country we are still kept busy at Waverley (with water supplies, PE duties, ramp and walkway services and site supervision); Partick Interchange, Glasgow Central, Aberdeen and Dundee. Depots are also a large priority this month as works are continuing at Broomloan, Haymarket, Inverness and Craigentinny and include drainage, shed extensions, shore supplies, fuelling apron lighting, LV testing, HST servicing, sump pumps, roof works, depot protection and air compressors. Multiple projects associated with the Stirling Dunblane and Alloa works are still ongoing as are AFA works at railway sites including Kilmarnock, Kilwinning and Pitlochry and CCTV and lighting design for a station approach path. Further afield, works at Liverpool Lime Street station are progressing well as is design on the Huddersfield to Bradford route. In the non-railway sphere in August we are pleased to be getting works underway for our project involving the River Clyde barriers and making headway at a car showroom in Sheffield. CAD 3D models are still being sought for education suites and we are nearing completion with a business park near Greenock; design for a sports pavilion in Helensburgh and some residential units in Edinburgh.
It’s busy as always as we head into Autumns so it you would like to be part of the team here and you have building services design (with a mechanical bias) in a consultancy setting, please submit your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. You’ll just be in time to secure your place on the all-important Christmas lunch!
