July 2018 News!
/It’s already half way through the summer and while the sun is keeping his hat firmly on outside, things are just as hot in the SVM office with new and old projects alike continuing to sizzle this month.
Many new projects have been emerging for the summer and several of them are centred around the larger Railway depots across the country with works including drainage, shed extensions, shore supplies and fuelling apron lighting. Waverley Station is once again proving a popular summer spot as we have been approached for works involving ramp and walkway services while South of Border we been asked to provide design advice for station REBs. Beyond the Railway this month we have taken to the water with a slightly different new project arising involving the River Clyde barriers, which is an interesting change of pace for the team who will definitely swim and never sink when faced with a challenge.
Still with us in a big way though the sunshine this month are various projects centred around the Highland Mainline extension works; works at Glasgow subway stations; design for Aberdeen Station; and surveys and reports for EVCPs at various station sites. Across Haymarket and Inverness Depots we are still looking at shore supplies, LV testing, HST servicing, sump pumps, roof works depot protection and air compressors while various works relating to Stirling Dunblane and Alloa, including additional level crossings, are still ongoing. AFA works are still in progress at sites including Kilmarnock, Kilwinning and Pitlochry and Waverley Station still has plenty of activity with ongoing water supplies, lighting, PE duties and site supervision. Works at Partick and Dundee Station and Glasgow Central Station for the retail and operational supplies are progressing well, while works at Dundee Station culminated in the recent opening of the newly refurbished building. CCTV and lighting design for a station approach path; boiler design for Dundee Station are beginning to gain ground in July while small scale projects at railway properties such as electrical upgrades, platform alcove lighting, car park design, CCTV design, LED surveys and proposed modular accommodation works are progressing well. In England we have begun design for the next phase of works on the project covering the London to Corby route from London northward while design at Liverpool Lime Street station remains busy and we continue to be involved with several railway sites on the Huddersfield to Bradford route. Commercially in July we are happy to involved with a car showroom in Sheffield, a business park near Greenock; design for a sports pavilion in Helensburgh and some residential units in Edinburgh. Also in Edinburgh we remain involved with a hotel, providing design advice following flood damage; ventilation installation at a site in Glasgow’s Broomielaw and CAD 3D models for education suites.
Staff jetsetting continues this month at SVM but as always, the projects don’t take a holiday and the same excellent level of service will be provided throughout the summer with it being business as usual in the office. If the above sounds like your idea of fun, SVM are still on the lookout for engineers who have more experience with building services design (with a mechanical bias) in a consultancy setting so please submit your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. A sure way to make your future bright!
