December 2018 News!

Another year has flashed by at lightning speed and Christmas is upon us once again.  This year has surpassed previous years to be SVM Glasgow’s most successful to date – which is a statement made at the end of every December but it is true that each year grows busier and brings more exciting challenges than the one before at SVM.  We look forward to seeing what next year has in store for us!

Christmas is a time to remember old friends and this month’s two largest new projects are with two of our most long standing clients who have been with us since the company’s inception.  These projects cover design that builds upon works already carried out at a major London station and works related to the CIS at multiple stations across Scotland.  Also making their first appearance this month are projects involving lift supplies in the West End of Glasgow; LED lighting at a major Glasgow Station and some site accommodation design at a Railway location on the East Coast of Scotland.

Staying with us into 2019 are containment survey works for Glasgow’s subway stations; various projects associated with the Highland Mainline extension programme, including the new HEP East works; works for the London to Corby route which heads Northwards from London; and the Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa works, with which we are also involved in several capacities.  Smaller project that are in their early stages this month include design at Hillington West station, lighting at Milliken Park Station and mast lighting at Craigentinny Depot, while design for a train yard in Elgin and platform lighting design at Westerton are also gearing up.  A sleigh ride to the South we are continuing to look at station works in Doncaster; railway locations on the Huddersfield to Bradford Route; and design for a swing bridge at Goole; while, moving further North, temporary platform design at an Ayrshire station is ongoing.  Across Scotland progress is being made at various depots for works including potable water supplies, fuel road design, modular accommodation, shore supplies, drainage works, LV testing, HST servicing, sump pumps, protection and air compressors; while CP6 station building upgrades and various works at other stations including Dundee and Aberdeen are ongoing.  Projects at multiple locations spread across Scotland include AFA works and design for EV charging points; while in the capital, we remain involved at Edinburgh Waverley Station and Craigentinny Depot with several different projects covering external lighting, fuelling apron lighting and roof works.  Finally, right on our doorstep we are making good headway with design for a large Glasgow Depot and works at Glasgow Central Station.  We are also progressing with non-railway projects including some lighting design for a Glasgow city centre office; our unusual project at Glasgow Clyde Barriers and CAD 3D models for education suites – a project as enduring as White Christmas!

The Christmas lunch was a hearty affair at Hutcheson’s Bar and Grill with certain civilised establishments visited for cocktails and a snifter of port thereafter – a sophisticated affair as always!  We are now on the final Christmas countdown with the Office closing on Friday 21st December and reopening on Thursday 3rd of January after a good Christmas break.  All that remains for 2018 is to thank all of our clients and collaborators who have helped to make it so successful.  Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous 2019 – we look forward to seeing you there!
