February News!

February sees 2020 truly up and running with several new projects arising while others really begin to progress this month; and, on the social side, we are also pleased to be supporting the IET Dinner again this year, with two tables booked at April’s event. All of which means the Spring is going to be an exciting time in the SVM office.
New projects heading our way in February include heating design at Motherwell Station; office design works at Shields Depot; and some mechanical design for a fuel tank at Crosshill. Still on the Railway, we have been asked to undertake some monitoring for phase 4 of works at Kilmarnock; look into the lighting gantries at Yoker; become involved with further AFA works at multiple sites; and head South for some footbridge design near Cleethorpes. Looking away from the Railway, we are also involved in some heating and AC design for one of our biggest client’s offices and, beginning a new relationship, we have been approached by the New Lanark Heritage Trust for some electrical design.
There are many ongoing projects this month and the ones keeping us busiest include design for 650V supply at Sharnbrook and Wellingborough; various works at Glasgow Central Station including DBs, LCPs and retail supplies; and works at Edinburgh Waverley Station including the toilets and concourse lighting, not to mention works at the nearby IECC. Also making good progress this month are LNER station designs across England; Carstairs Rationalisation works; and design for shore supplies in the Nevillehill area. Staying in Glasgow we are still producing lighting design for Glasgow subway tunnels; while across Scotland we are continuing to look at Depot Protection at various Railway sites; works at Inverness Depot; renewal works from Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie; Banavie Swing Bridge; Highland Mainline; HEP East; and Caledonian Sleeper stabling facilities. We are awaiting the go ahead for works at Reston and East Linton while Ayr and Arbroath stations continue to make good progress; and we remain involved with lub oil issues and footbridge lighting at Railway properties in Craigentinny and Falkirk respectively. In England we are busy with Railway design at Birmingham Station and a separate project covering further works at New Street Station; we are reaching completion on design works in the Bristol area; and design works for Goole Swing Bridge remain busy. Moving into the commercial sector, we are still heavily involved with design for the Northern Lighthouse Board at a Sumburgh Head site with works relating to the the mercury baths supporting Fresnel lenses; the provision of design advice for a large residential property in the Scottish Borders following fire damage; and technical reinstatement advice at St Andrew’s University. We remain involved in the provision of design advice for Glasgow’s Tidal weir; a plumbing company in the Edinburgh area; office refurbishment works in Finnieston, Liverpool and East Kilbride; and EVCP installations in Blantyre.
It’s onwards and upwards at SVM and for none more so than Senior Electrical John Burns who just attained a MSc Building Services Engineering with Distinction. We would all like to congratulate him on such a wonderful achievement and wish him the best for his future at SVM. So if you think that you’ve got what it takes to be a part of such a dynamic team (and you have consultancy/rail experience) please don’t hesitate to submit your CV to Elise McLean, elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you.
