March News!
/What a difference a month makes. The current, unprecedented situation with COVID-19 is affecting every part of life across the country and we hope that all of our clients and collaborators are healthy and coping – both professionally and personally – at this difficult time. At SVM, we have now introduced working from home wherever it is at all possible but we still aim to deliver the same excellent service and all of our members remain contactable by mobile and email. COVID-19’s impact has been strong but we are sure that together, we can all be stronger.
Despite the turbulence of the current climate, SVM have still been approached about many new schemes this month. Further review works have been requested at Inverness Depot, while new works have begun for earthing and bonding in Motherwell, renewals at the Edinburgh Control Centre, boilers at Corkerhill Depot and solar panels at Aberdeen Depot. We are beginning to look at Edinburgh Waverley approaches for a new direct client, while towards the South, we have become involved in temporary works at Newton Station, a depot near Bounds Green and shore supplies at Plymouth and Penzance. Leaving the railway sphere, we have also undertaken load monitoring and advice for a commercial property and provided design advice for a hangar at Glasgow Airport.
Still going strong in March are design works for Goole Swing Bridge; various works at Glasgow Central Station including DBs, LCPs and retail supplies; depot protection design works; railway design at a Birmingham Station; and LNER station surveys and design across England. Heating works at Motherwell and office design at Shields Depot are gaining momentum, as is design for the lighting gantries at Yoker. 650V supply at Sharnbrook and Wellingborough is progressing well, as are works at Edinburgh Waverley Station including the toilets, concourse lighting and nearby IECC. Also ongoing in March are AFA works at multiple sites, shore supplies design in the Nevillehill area and lighting design for Glasgow subway tunnels. Footbridge design near Cleethorpes is taking shape while works at Reston and East Linton are also getting underway, as are those for Banavie Swing Bridge site support. Small projects covering a fuel tank at Crosshill, monitoring at Kilmarnock and accommodation works at Ayr and Arbroath are still underway while we are in the final stages of renewal works from Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie;; Highland Mainline; HEP East; Caledonian Sleeper stabling facilities; and the current stage of 11kv works in Bristol. Commercially speaking we are continuing with some electrical design for New Lanark Heritage Trust and remain heavily involved with design for the Northern Lighthouse Board at a Sumburgh Head site with works relating to the mercury baths supporting Fresnel lenses. Design advice is still being provided for a large residential property in the Scottish Borders following fire damage as is technical reinstatement advice at St Andrew’s University, while, elsewhere, we remain involved with Glasgow’s Tidal Weir, various ECVP installations and office refurbishment works in Finnieston, Liverpool and East Kilbride.
Times are very uncertain at the moment but SVM will continue operate no matter what the future brings whether that be via home working, telephone, email or conference call meetings – we will still get the job done!
