July News!
/Summer is upon us once again and it is wonderful to see the industry continue its return to social gatherings with the IET Dinner proceeding in Glasgow next month for the first time since the pandemic began. SVM are delighted to be taking two tables and hope that we are joined by as many friends as possible. Meanwhile, even though we get to enjoy a proper holiday season for the first time in 3 years, there will always be somebody on hand at SVM Glasgow to assist all our clients with whatever they may need.
It's a busy July this year with new projects arising that include an office refurbishment in Kilsyth, a further phase of AFA works in the Port Glasgow area; a subway pump in Goole; and the beginning of design works covering the Welwyn to Hitchin route to the North of London. We have also submitted several fee proposals for works including the Forth Bridge Visitor Centre; a selection of managed stations across England; and we are in the early stages of discussion regarding a biomass site in Portree and Glengarnock Rugby Club.
Our ongoing summer blockbusters this year are led by Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; Goole Swing Bridge works; large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route; and the new phase of works on the Rugeley to Colwich route. This directs a lot of our attention South of the Border this month, where we are also still servicing shore supplies design at Crewe; design near Widnes; and additional design for London to Corby. We continue to await the beginning of works at Whitley Bay, while reactive works are ongoing for Birmingham and Euston Stations. Heading back into Scotland we are continuing to be kept busy right across the country with works at multiple Railway Depots encompassing accommodation design; LMD CETs; departure roads, drainage, office HVAC; and points converters. In the North, we continue to be involved with the construction phase at Aberdeen Station; design for a relay room in the Perth area; CETs at Fort William Depot; frost protection at Aberdeen; and a further Railway Simulator in Inverness. Meanwhile Inverness Workstations and Axle Counters and Dalcross GRIP 4 works are also progressing well. Heading South, we have made a good start on design works for the Railway route between Blair Atholl and Dalwhinnie while, in the Edinburgh area, works including gas supplies; fluid dispensing works; ventilation; design for Superloos; and Control Centre Renewals continue across the main stations and infrastructure. Around the central belt we are still fully involved with Carstairs Rationalisation; design works for Saltcoats station waiting room; design for platform water heaters in Ayrshire; and ticket vending machine design across multiple sites; while AfA works at Selby, Croy, Johnston, Reston and Port Glasgow; and DB design at Cathcart are all approaching completion. The Glasgow area, of course, remains busy with remedial works at multiple stations including Paisley Gilmour St and Burntisland; a scheme associated with the DHL at Cadder; and design at Millerhill Depot which includes both the sidings and water main issues. Glasgow Central Station is still a hot spot with projects covering the power supplies; lighting DB design; work on the ScotRail simulators; retail supplies; and retail units at Network Rail properties.
Meanwhile we have remained busy in the commercial sector with provision of design advice for ventilation in a Cumbernauld Vape Shop and a Glasow University building following a fire, Works related to the ash lagoons in Valleyfield created following the closure of Longannet Power Station in 2016 are still ongoing, as is our involvement with a primary school in Moray and preparatory works for a potential scheme across several Scottish lighthouses.
July has been a big month with our annual RISQS audit being undertaken for another year. After an initial last minute cancellation due to COVID, we are delighted to have passed once again. With all of this going on, we might just be looking for an extra pair of hands, so if you would like to be involved in these exciting projects and you have Railway based electrical and mechanical design experience in a consultancy/contractor setting, please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk – and maybe you could be part of the team.
