June News!
/After enjoying the long Platinum Jubilee weekend, everyone at SVM is back at work and looking forward to the summer - especially with two SVM weddings taking place over the next few weeks. We hope they each have fabulous days and wish them all the best for the future. Elsewhere, holidays are at last getting underway with staff heading off on trips to Italy and New York to kick off the season. We hope everybody enjoys this year’s much needed holidays and rest assured that there will always be someone on hand at SVM to cater to all of our clients’ needs.
Several new projects are joining us for the summer including design works for Saltcoats station waiting room; HVAC issues at a contractor’s office at Shields Depot; and a large project taking place on the Railway route between Blair Atholl and Dalwhinnie. We continue to await the beginning of a scheme on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route and a railway scheme in Clacton while, in the commercial sector, we have been asked to provide design advice for ventilation in a Cumbernauld Vape Shop, works across several Scottish lighthouses and a primary school in Moray.
Leading the pack of our existing projects this month are Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; Goole Swing Bridge works; large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route; and the new phase of works on the Rugeley to Colwich route. Many close to home projects are still in full swing including remedial works at multiple stations; a scheme associated with the DHL at Cadder; and design at Millerhill Depot which includes both the sidings and water main issues. Glasgow Central Station remains busy with projects covering the passenger management centre; power supplies; lighting DB design; work on the ScotRail simulators and retail supplies. Meanwhile LMD CETs at Craigentinny Depot and remedial works at Paisley Gilmour Street Station and Burntisland are beginning to make headway. Moving out from Glasgow we are still fully involved with Carstairs Rationalisation; design for platform water heaters in Ayrshire; ticket vending machine design across multiple sites; AfA works at Selby, Croy, Johnston, Reston and Port Glasgow; and DB design at Cathcart. Heading East, the major Edinburgh stations are buzzing with works including gas supplies; fluid dispensing works; ventilation and design for Superloos; while Edinburgh Control Centre Renewals also remains ongoing. Railway Depots across the country remain busy with works encompassing accommodation design; departure roads, drainage and points converters while, heading North, the construction phase of works at Aberdeen Station and design for a relay room in the Perth area are ongoing. CETs at Fort William Depot, frost protection at Aberdeen and a further Railway Simulator in Inverness are also making good progress as are retail units at Network Rail properties; Inverness Workstations and Axle Counters and Dalcross GRIP 4 works. England also remains lively this summer with shore supplies design at Crewe; design near Widnes; and additional design for London to Corby. Whitley Bay prepares to get underway while reactive works are ongoing for VAMOS level crossings, Birmingham Station and 650V feeders renewal in Middlesbrough and Whitehouse.
Schemes in the commercial sector are not taking any holidays with works related to the ash lagoons in Valleyfield created following the closure of Longannet Power Station in 2016; provision of expert advice following a fire in a Glasow University building; and office refurbishment at a business park in Musselburgh.
We are happy this month to welcome Allan Harkness to SVM in the role of assistant electrical engineer. We hope that he is able to grow his skills at SVM and is happy to be part of the team. If you too would like to be a part of SVM and be involved in exciting projects like those above, please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
