March News!

March is coming to a close and we are heading towards the end of another financial year with a Spring in our step.  2024-2025 has come and gone quickly but it has seen SVM’s involvement in many large scale and high quality projects across the country, so a big thank you to all our clients and collaborators for making this another excellent year.

New projects just sneaking into this year include electrical surveys for Bowling, Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston stations; sump pump works at Inverness CSMD; and an extensive spread of UPS renewals works for the Railway.  Meanwhile, in the commercial sector, we have begun to look at office refurbishments for sites in Garscadden and Annan.

Of course, we also have ongoing works all across the country, the most prominent of these in March being design for station platforms on the West Highland main line; Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; Clacton wheel lathe works; various projects around Glasgow Central Station including retail; PSP/compressor works; Level 4 TPE, electrical surveys, plant arch fire protection; tanking works in Dumfries; Darlington signalling power; CETs at Craigentinny and design for the accelerated network.  Also keeping us busy this month are continuing projects that start up North with pit lighting, replacement control panels, fuel tank failure analysis; Motorail buffer stop lighting and train crew accommodation works in Inverness; water pipe diversion, traincare facilities, pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee; three separate projects at Dunkeld and Birnham Station; surveys on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route; and design covering the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route.  Heading South, we are in the early stages of design for a PHCC in Arbroath and; resignalling design in the Perth area before reaching the busy central belt.  The main Glasgow stations have been covered above but in Edinburgh we are also bustling with new design for multiple DBs; ventilation design, concourse lighting control, calorifier design; digital advertising boards; and distribution design.  We have progressed with 650V signalling feeders in the Townhill area; refurbishment works at a Polmadie relay room; design assistance for East Kilbride electrification works; design works at Portobello; REB wraparound protection at multiple railway sites; and depot CET/water facilities.  We continue to make good progress with works for the refit of Edinburgh IECC and WSSC as well as those for DPS works at Broomloan; GRIP 5 AFA works at Balgray station; and MELF works at Yoker.  Remedial works at Scotstounhill and Airdrie Stations are ongoing, while Yoker Bridge deck and Depot works are still in progress.  In Ayrshire and the Borders we continue with Irvine MDU; booking office; platform water heating and re-energisation works at Ayr Station; and the finishing touches at Troon Station.  England also remains busy with ongoing projects for footbridge lighting in York; Ravensthorpe SFC; CCTV in a station car park in Darlington; replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites; and various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park covering road jacking, 10 car stabling, engine drop and depot protection services.  Goole swing bridge and Bangor to Colwyn Bay edge ever closer to completion; while CET design in Carmarthen; Selhurst REB and wheel lathe; and Ferrybridge to Goole route works remain ongoing.

Keeping busy away from the Railway, we have also been undertaking works for a healthcare facility in Elland; two

recycling plants in the Glasgow area; and resloving works for a waste transfer facility in Helensburgh.  Extensive works associated with the expansion of Stranraer marina are ongoing, as is our involvement at Glasgow’s famous SEC.

We’re glad to have another successful year under our belt and we are gearing up for an even better 2025/2026.  So, if you like the sound of the above and are looking for a new challenge (and have some experience in the building services /railway sectors), then you could be part of it.  Send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and 2025 could be your year!
