May News!

Another month has rolled around and finds Scotland still under lockdown.  It has been a long period of isolation for us all but we continue to be grateful for all the technology that has allowed us to continue to work from home and deliver our services to the Railway, which remains very much a key service to the country.  We hope that we might see some changes for the better soon and look forward to getting back into the office when it is safe to do so.

Despite the current climate, SVM are still fielding enquiries for new projects assisting in the vital running of the Railway.  We are looking at the design for some stations in the London area and design for a rail freight yard in the East End of Glasgow, which begins a relationship with a new client.  Conversely, we have also submitted several fees for rail works at various locations including Waverley Station, Berwick on Tweed, Helmsdale, Crianlarich and Dingwall (among others) to one of our oldest and closest clients.  Just going to show that there are still plenty of jobs to be done.

A lot of existing projects are still in process (from home) in May, led by design works for Goole Swing Bridge; various works at Glasgow Central Station including DBs, LCPs and retail supplies; depot protection design works; and railway design at a Birmingham Station.  Works are ongoing at Edinburgh Waverley Station including the toilets, concourse lighting and nearby IECC; while we are approaching the completion of AFA works at multiple sites, shore supplies design in the Nevillehill area and lighting design for Glasgow subway tunnels.  Footbridge design near Cleethorpes is taking shape while works at Reston and East Linton are in full swing along with  accommodation works at Ayr Station.  Finally, Highland Mainline; HEP East; Caledonian Sleeper stabling facilities; and the current stage of 11kV works in Bristol are all still receiving support as they go through their later stages.

Once again, we hope that all our clients, colleagues and collaborators are coping through this difficult period and we look forward to the time, at some point in the future, when it is safe to get around a meeting table once again.  Jaffa cakes included!
