November News!
/In the wake of tricks, treats and fireworks, we have reached the penultimate update of 2023. The Christmas season is just around the corner and it is difficult to believe that another year is racing to a close already. Yet it is still business as usual at SVM with everyone working hard to make sure that the remaining month of 2023 is as productive as all the ones that have come before it.
November has been very busy at SVM with several new projects arising for the end of this year. With instructions to begin design for LED lighting at Waverley Station, electrical surveys at Argyle St Station and panel design works in Inverness, we have again become involved with further works at three sites with which we are very familiar -. Meanwhile, we have been pricing up a storm with costs submitted for design of traincrew facilities; level crossing works in the Fort William area; junction lighting in Glasgow Central station; and a Rail Yard in Perth. We are also in the tendering stages for various EP duties associated with multiple Railway frameworks and various small scale, architect led works within the Railway - all of which should keep us warm well into the New Year.
Ongoing projects that are with us for the winter are most prominently led by Tysley Depot GRIP 5 design; Caledonia Chambers works at Glasgow Central Station; Railway design for the Bangor to Colwyn Bay route; AFA works at Anniesland Station; and survey works for replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites. Cadder Depot continues to be the gift that keeps on giving with works covering the asset plans, substations, DHL, RSA shed, sliding gate, proposed new wheel lathe, and temporary LV supplies; while GRIP 4-5 design works at Levenmouth and station rebuild design at Troon remain healthy. A trio of Railway projects covering Aldclune Level Crossing, Kirkconnel LEW and Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie design is making good progress; as are boiler renewal works at Craigentinny; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters and a railway simulator. Projects in their early stages that we look forward to getting our teeth into include GRIP 5 design at Portobello; engine drop equipment in the Derby area; multiple facets of new design at Barrhead South (now called Balgray Station); bridge deck works in the Yoker area and fire damper investigation works for the railway. Inverness Station traincrew facility and railway LV design from Aberdeen to the Central Belt are just awaiting the green light and, as always, we have several smaller scale works that remain very much alive such as electrical survey reports for Bargeddie and Bellshill Stations; design for Queen St ticket office; and LMD compressors at Haymarket Depot. Eastfield Depot CETs; a station booking office in Ayrshire; and remedial station works at multiple sites are still ongoing, as are Motherwell station boiler replacement works; and the final throes of Barrhead electrification and LLPA design at various sites. And if Scotland wasn’t busy enough, we also remain heavily involved in projects South of the border with ongoing works for Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; large scale works for FTN design in the Stoke/Derby area; and resignalling around Darlington. Tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire are in full swing as are CRE duties for Nevillehill and Heaton Depots; the traffic light at Great Glen Station; and firewall replacement at four individual FTN ROC sites. Selhurst is still busy with projects for the REB and wheel lathe; while reactive involvement is ongoing for long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations; design near Widnes; Goole Swing Bridge; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route.
Non Railway projects looking to spend Christmas with us include two healthcare facilities in Cambridge, one a new physiotherapy suite and the other an ophthalmic day theatre; and design works for an office refurbishment in Kilsyth. Meanwhile we look forward to beginning lighting works at a roundabout in the East of Glasgow; and Port Authority works at varying stages of design and implementation from Fort William in the North, Liverpool in the West and Sheerness in the South East.
Speaking of the festive season, we were delighted to kick off the partying this month with 2 tables at the IRSE dinner. We are very grateful to all the organisers for making it such an entertaining and informative evening and to the guests who joined the merriment at SVM’s tables! So if you feel like you have something that you could bring to the party and you have building services experience in a consultancy setting or are a University graduate in an appropriate discipline then send your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. Don’t wait to be invited!
