October News!
/October remains a busy month at SVM and that extra hour will come in handy when the clocks go back next week. We have many exciting projects on the go and plenty in the pipeline to see us through the dark winter months. Also, we have just kicked off the end of year social season with a very successful night at Glasgow’s IET Dinner and we are looking forward to attending the IRSE dinner next month. At this rate it will be Christmas before we know it!
October has seen some new projects come our way, with design works arising at various locations including Bargeddie and Bellshill Stations, Queen St ticket office and Inverness Station traincrew facility. We have also become involved in the very early stages of larger scale projects such as railway LV design from Aberdeen to the Central Belt, GRIP 5 design at Portobello; engine drop equipment in the Derby area; and multiple facets of new design at Barrhead South. New projects in the pipeline, which we look forward to beginning soon, include various EP duties associated with multiple Railway frameworks and various small scale, architect led works within the Railway.
Ongoing projects sticking with us through spooky season this year are headed up by Tysley Depot GRIP 5 design; Caledonia Chabers works at Glasgow Central Station; Railway design for the Bangor to Colwyn Bay route; AFA works at Anniesland Station; and survey works for replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites. Also making healthy progress this month are GRIP 4-5 design works at Levenmouth; station rebuild design at Troon; and boiler renewal works at Craigentinny; while Cadder Depot remains abuzz with works covering the asset plans, substations, DHL, RSA shed, sliding gate, proposed new wheel lathe; and temporary LV supplies. Still on the radar this month we also have works on the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route; the Dalcross GRIP 4 project; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters and a railway simulator. Design for LMD compressors at Haymarket Depot is ongoing, as are works for a DNO supply cubicle in the Larbert area; Eastfield Depot CETs; a station booking office in Ayrshire; and remedial station works at multiple sites. Replacement of Motherwell Station boiler for a new sustainably designed air source heat pump arrangement is back underway, while Barrhead electrification works are edging nearer completion, along with LLPA design works at various sites; and Carstairs Rationalisation. Other projects just getting off the ground this month include bridge deck works in the Yoker area; life extension works at Kirkconnel; fire damper investigation works for the railway; and level crossing design at Aldclune. Our trick or treating route can extend all though England this month with ongoing works for Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; large scale works for FTN design in the Stoke/Derby area; and resignalling around Darlington. Tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire are in full swing as are CRE duties for Nevillehill and Heaton Depots; the traffic light at Great Glen Station; and firewall replacement at four individual FTN sites. Selhurst is still busy with projects for the REB and wheel lathe; while reactive involvement is ongoing for long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations; design near Widnes; Goole Swing Bridge; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route.
Non Railway projects have held their own in October with two healthcare facilities in Cambridge, one a new physiotherapy suite and the other an ophthalmic day theatre; and design works for an office refurbishment in Kilsyth. We are in the process of closing out the renovation of a farm building; and design works at a timber yard near Fort William. Meanwhile we look forward to getting up and running with lighting works at a roundabout in the East of Glasgow; and Port Authority works at varying stages of design and implementation from Fort William in the North, Liverpool in the West and Sheerness in the South East.
