October News!
/As usual, October has gone by in a flash and Halloween is almost upon us! Along with the trick or treaters, SVM have also opened the door to several new projects from old and new clients alike – making sure that this month has been filled with bumps in the night!
October has seen us beginning to get involved in several large scale projects spread across Scotland’s Rail network. We have begun to look at EMF and MELF works at multiple railway locations; feeders in the Townhill area; and extensive CCTV works at Glasgow Central Station – an old friend if ever there was one! Meanwhile, in the commercial sector, we have been asked to look at some fuel tank issues for a new client that we are happy to welcome to the fold.
Projects providing the big scares this Halloween include pit lighting works in Inverness, a refit scheme at the IECC; design for Glasgow Central Level 4 TPE and the separate project for the retail refurbishment; Clacton wheel lathe; Craigentinny CET; and the second group of sites that are part of the electrical design for the accelerated network project. We are busy all across the country in October with Inverness panel scope design; train crew accommodation; surveys on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route; water pipe diversion works in Dundee; Aldclune Level Crossing; and design for Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie all beginning in the North. Moving further South we are continuing to provide design assistance for East Kilbride electrification works; GRIP 4 and 5 design works at Levenmouth and Portobello; LEV design for engineering; mechanical design at Motherwell MDU; works at Shields Depot; and CET/water facilities at multiple sites. GRIP 5 AFA works at Balgray station are beginning to get underway as are remedial works at Scotstounhill and Airdrie Stations; Busby Station design; a power store in the Motherwell area and works for an overbridge on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The main stations in Edinburgh and Glasgow are busy as always with various aspects of ventilation design, concourse lighting, calorifier design; digital advertising boards; distribution design and the signalling centre at the former. Meanwhile Glasgow Central is home to electrical surveys, water tank works and design for junction lighting; Queen Street ticket office works are ongoing; and we’ve also forged ahead with points heating works at Westerton Station; design for D&P signal boxes; and containment works at Singer. Also making spooktacular progress this month are Yoker Bridge deck; Clydebank remedials; and Depot works covering feeder protection upgrades; design for fuel control panels; heating, air-con and boiler replacement works at Motherwell; and DPS works at Broomloan. Continuing into the borders we are approaching completion on Troon Station refurbishment while Irvine MDU and Ayr Station works including the booking office; platform water heating and re-energisation are ongoing. Water tank design at Dumfries; design at Prestwick Railway Station; and Kirkconnel life extension works are all also still in progress. Our broomsticks continue to fly further South this month with England still home to several live projects including Transpennine Express works in Newcastle, Hull and York; replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites; and various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park covering road jacking, 10 car stabling, engine drop and depot protection services. Goole swing bridge works are ongoing, as are tunnel works in West Yorkshire; CET design in Carmarthen; and shore supplies in Scarborough; while reactive assistance for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin routes, and Birmingham and Euston Stations continues. Works in Selhurst for both an REB and wheel lathe are ongoing; and we continue to edge closer to the completion of works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route; and Bangor to Colwyn Bay.
We’ve been busy in the commercial sector this month with a waste transfer facility in Helensburgh and the beginning of extensive works associated with the expansion of Stranraer marina. We continue to provide design advice for Building Control acceptance for a commercial unit in Dumfries, and have begun to look at some design in Glasgow’s SECC.
October has been a busy month in the office as many of our junior staff have started back at their various University and college courses. It’s wonderful to see our staff continue to learn and grow and take the team at SVM from strength to strength, allowing us to provide up to date and ever improving services to all of our clients.
