November News!
/It’s hard to believe that yet another year is racing to a close as we barrel headlong towards the festive season. However, as November draws nearer its end, things are definitely heating up in the SVM office with plenty of projects waiting to be gift wrapped for Christmas.
November has been a very busy month with new projects arising for PSPs and compressors at Glasgow Central and LLPA works at Troon. Two large scale signalling power projects in the Darlington and Dundee areas are just getting underway, while we are in the tendering stage of MELF works at Yoker. We have had a healthy month away from the Railway too with cable calcs for a commercial unit in Hillington Park and electrical design for an office property in the trendy Partick area.
Ongoing projects that are making the most of November are led by Clacton wheel lathe; retail refurbishment at Glasgow Central Station; Craigentinny CET; and the second group of sites that are part of the electrical design for the accelerated network project. Scotland remains abuzz with Railway works starting in the North with pit lighting works, panel scope design, and train crew accommodation in Inverness; surveys on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route; water pipe diversion works in Dundee; EMF works; and design for Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie. Heading into the central belt we have progressed with 650V signalling feeders in the Townhill area; design assistance for East Kilbride electrification works; GRIP 4 and 5 design works at Levenmouth and Portobello; LEV design for engineering; mechanical design at Motherwell MDU; works at Shields Depot; and CET/water facilities at multiple sites. GRIP 5 AFA works are heating up at Balgray station, as are remedial works at Scotstounhill and Airdrie Stations; Busby Station design; a power store in the Motherwell area and works for an overbridge on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Also making good progress this month are points heating works at Westerton Station; design for D&P signal boxes; containment works at Singer; Yoker Bridge deck; Clydebank remedials; and Depot works covering feeder protection upgrades. Not to mention design for fuel control panels; heating, air-con and boiler replacement works at Motherwell; and DPS works at Broomloan. The big hubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh also continue to keep us busy with Edinburgh home to a refit scheme at the IECC; ventilation design, concourse lighting, calorifier design; digital advertising boards; and distribution design. Meanwhile Glasgow Central hosts Level 4 TPE, retail refurbishment; electrical surveys, water tank works; design for junction lighting; and the early stages of extensive CCTV works. The borders area rounds out the rest of SVM’s Scottish works with the final stages of Troon Station refurbishment; Irvine MDU; and booking office; platform water heating and re-energisation works at Ayr Station Water tank design continues at Dumfries, while design at Prestwick Railway Station and Kirkconnel life extension works are all also still in progress. We keep on going into England this November with Transpennine Express works in Newcastle, Hull and York; replacement of copper medium telecomms to fibre on Railway SCADA sites; and various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park covering road jacking, 10 car stabling, engine drop and depot protection services. Goole swing bridge works are ongoing, as are tunnel works in West Yorkshire; CET design in Carmarthen; and shore supplies in Scarborough; while reactive assistance for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin routes, and Birmingham and Euston Stations continues. Works in Selhurst for both an REB and wheel lathe are ongoing; and we continue to edge closer to the completion of works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route; and Bangor to Colwyn Bay.
We have not forgotten the commercial sector, however, with design being undertaken for Glasgow City Council concerning fuel tanks; a waste transfer facility in Helensburgh and the beginning of extensive works associated with the expansion of Stranraer marina. We continue to provide design advice for Building Control acceptance for a commercial unit in Dumfries, and have begun to look at some design in Glasgow’s SEC.
Party time has officially begun for SVM with another very successful attendance at Scotland’s IRSE dinner, which was a most dignified affair and SVM are delighted that all of our guests were able to attend. This month has also seen us join the celebrations for Airquick’s 50th Anniversary with a day at the races for which we would like to thank all involved; however with our current list of clients and collaborators, SVM already feel like a big winner.
