April News!

Easter has come and gone for another year and we hope that all of our clients and collaborators have had a nice break over the weekend.  Everyone at SVM has a spring in their step as we kick off another financial year that promises to be full of exciting new challenges – a prospect even better than all the Easter eggs!

New projects arriving with the Easter Bunny this month include further works at Cadder surrounding a sliding gate and a Railway shed; remedial station design works at multiple sites across the Central belt such as Airdrie, Drumry, Mount Florida, Crosshill and Cowdenbeath; and further AFA works intended to increase the accessibility at Anniesland station.  As well as these, we have also increased our involvement in the health care sector with some mechanical design for a new ophthalmic day theatre; and Port Authority works at varying stages of design and implementation from Fort William in the North, Liverpool in the West and Sheerness in the South East.

Plenty of ongoing projects remain a big part of our output this Spring, the most prominent of which being Bangor to Colwyn Bay design; Goole Swing Bridge (GRIP 6 to 8 stages); separate designs for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; and large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route.  Close to home we are well underway on works for Barrhead electrification; and multiple projects at the major stations in Edinburgh and Glasgow including design advice for power supplies; work on the ScotRail simulators; retail supplies; retail units design; water supplies; lighting; and ventilation design for Superloos.  Also in the Glasgow area we continue to be involved with LLPA design for multiple Railway sites, CET design and boiler replacements at Craigentinny Depot; and design for executive suites in some nearby Railway offices.  Multiple works covering various aspects such as the DHL and substations are underway at Cadder Yard while we remain involved with Cathcart platform lighting; Carstairs Rationalisation; multiple AFA sites; ticket vending machine design across multiple sites; and Motherwell Station boiler replacement for a new sustainably designed air source heat pump arrangement.  Moving out across Scotland we are undertaking design for white diesel changeover works at multiple Scottish depots; station refurbishment works in Troon; design for a station booking office in Ayrshire; and CRE duties for Millerhill and Heaton Depots.  Meanwhile, to the North, we remain involved with works on the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route; the Dalcross GRIP 4 project; construction phase works at Aberdeen Station; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters, stations remedial works and a railway simulator.  England is also a busy place for us this month with a new stage of works for Tysley Depot; resignalling in the Darlington area; and tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire all just getting started.  Meanwhile we continue to be involved with works covering compact PSPs; lighting at Hessle Station; design for a subway pump in Goole; reactive involvement on long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations; and design near Widnes.

We continue to stay strong in the commercial sector this month with the renovation of a farm building; design for works at a timber yard near Fort William; and a project involving an office building in Dundee.   We also remain involved with a premises in a Dundee industrial estate. design works for a farmhouse in Johnstone; an office refurbishment in Kilsyth; and a warehouse facility in Inverness.

Once more there is something to celebrate at SVM this month with the completion of the long running refurbishment project at Aberdeen Station.  It has been a privilege to be a part of these works and they have achieved some excellent results which will benefit all passengers and workers using the station.  We are looking forward to celebrating the success of this project with a night out at the end of the month and look forward to seeing all those involved with the project there.  If you would like to be part of projects yielding such exceptional outcomes, and you are an engineer with Railway based electrical and mechanical design experience in a consultancy/contractor setting, then why not join the party?  Please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. and we’ll save you a seat!
