March News!

Spring is just around the corner (honest!), and everyone at SVM is busy gearing up for another successful year.  Plenty of new projects are being ushered in with the change of season and we are all set for another exciting year ahead.

Among those new arrivals to the SVM office this month are new stages of works for existing projects at Tysley Depot and Barrhead electrification; water supplies at Waverley signalling centre; and white diesel changeover works at multiple Scottish depots.  A large scale new project involving resignalling in the Darlington area is just getting underway; while remedial works at several stations across the country are also in their early stages.  Meanwhile, in the non-railway environment we have been asked by the architect to look at the renovation of a farm building; undertake some design for works at a timber yard near Fort William; and becoming involved with an office building in Dundee.

Ongoing projects continuing into Spring with us are headed up by Bangor to Colwyn Bay design; Goole Swing Bridge (now entering GRIP 6 to 8 stages); separate designs for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; and large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route.  This makes England a hot bed of SVM activity this month as we are also involved with tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire; additional projects covering compact PSPs; and lighting at Hessle Station.  Design for a subway pump in Goole is also still underway as is our reactive involvement on long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations and design near Widnes.  Meanwhile, back in Scotland, station refurbishment works in Troon are going strong as are remedial works at several West Coast Stations; design for a station booking office in Ayrshire; and CRE duties for Millerhill and Heaton Depots.  The Central belt remains busy with works at major stations including design advice for power supplies; work on the ScotRail simulators; retail supplies; retail units design; and ventilation design for Superloos.  We continue to be involved with LLPA design for multiple Railway sites in the Glasgow area, CET design and boiler replacements at Craigentinny Depot; and design for executive suites in some nearby Glasgow Railway offices.  Multiple works covering various aspects such as the DHL and substations are underway at Cadder Yard while we remain involved with Cathcart platform lighting; Carstairs Rationalisation; multiple AFA sites; ticket vending machine design across multiple sites; and Motherwell Station boiler replacement for a new sustainably designed air source heat pump arrangement.  Finally, heading to the North of the Country, we remain involved with works on the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route; the Dalcross GRIP 4 project; construction phase works at Aberdeen Station; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters, stations remedial works and a railway simulator.

As well as a flurry of new activity in our commercial sector works this month, we are also continuing to service our existing projects including premises in a Dundee industrial estate. design works for a farmhouse in Johnstone; an office refurbishment in Kilsyth; and a warehouse facility in Inverness.

As well as all this good news, there has also been a goodbye at SVM in March, with Ciaran Thomson moving on to pastures new; however, this does make it an excellent time to become part of our dynamic team!  So if you are an engineer with Railway based electrical and mechanical design experience in a consultancy/contractor setting please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk.  We look forward to hearing from you.
