February News!

2019 continues to be fast paced and busy with plenty projects arising from both the Railway and Commercial sectors.  It’s already looking pretty clear that 2019 is going to be another bumper year at SVM.

As this year begins to gear up, we welcome new projects including works relating to air compressors at two large Scottish Railway depots while, further South, we have begun to review escalator problems at a railway location in Birmingham.  Meanwhile, heading in the opposite direction, we have begun to undertake design for some temporary stabling works in the Perth area and for a temporary underframe wash at a depot in the highlands.  We also remain involved in the commercial world this month with some car park design in Glasgow city centre, works for a high rise office building in Glasgow’s rapidly developing Finnieston area and, finally, the long awaited return of a project based in an iconic Glasgow hotel with which we have been involved intermittently for the last six years.

Also surviving the winter with us this year are several long running projects including various works associated with the Highland Mainline extension programme, including works for HEP East; works for the London to Corby route which heads Northwards from London; various design elements at a Glasgow Rail Depot; CP6 station building upgrades; and the Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa works, with which we are also involved in several capacities.  In and around Glasgow we are continuing to provide design support for one of the chief railway depots for several facets of a large scale upgrade; LED lighting at multiple low level stations; some feeder design in the Carstairs area and ongoing containment survey works for the Subway.  We remain involved at a major Glasgow station providing design advice for retail supplies while, further from the City Centre, we are maintaining our presence in the lighting works being undertaken at Westerton and Hillington West.  Across the Central belt CIS design at multiple Scottish Stations is progressing well, as is design for EVCPs.  In Edinburgh we continue to be involved with various works at Waverley station, including walkway lighting and site support; and also at Craigentinny Depot where we continue to provide design for high mast lighting, fuelling apron, roof works and boiler replacements.  Further North we are certainly getting around the Highlands with small scale works including lighting design, platform extension, retail supplies, building services, potable water supplies, fuel road design, Access for All, modular accommodation, shore supplies, drainage works, LV testing, HST servicing and sump pumps taking place in a variety of station and depot locations.  Furthermore, we also remain part of several projects across the U.K. with detailed design at a Railway property in Birmingham, works around a major London Station, station design near Doncaster; support for railway locations on the Huddersfield to Bradford Route; and design for a swing bridge at Goole.  Away from the Railway we are remain a part of Glasgow Clyde Barriers works, some lighting design for a Glasgow city centre office and CAD 3D models for education suites – with new locations arising.  We also await the beginning of some services design for a landfill site in Stornoway and an interesting project at Ardnamurchan Point.

Now that the Valentine’s hearts have cleared, it’s time to start thinking with your head and consider joining the team at SVM Glasgow!  If you would like to join us and be involved in these exciting and interesting projects then submit your CV to Elise McLean, elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk.  You’ll love it!
