June News!
/It’s difficult to believe that we are half way through another year. The sun cream is out and the holiday’s are all beginning – although the weather has been so nice it’s been equally lovely to staycation in beautiful Scotland. In either case, everything is business as usual at SVM Glasgow, turning out excellent designs to satisfied clients – and that deserves a cocktail in the sun.
June has brought lots of exciting new works for the summer season with design being requested for Eastfield Depot CETs and boiler renewal works at Craigentinny LMD. We have also tendered our interest in several works for which we are awaiting the green light including fire damper investigation works; a project entailing the changeover from copper medium telecomms to fibre; and wheel lathe design works in the South of England. As usual, we are not neglecting the commercial side of works this month with another project about to begin in the Healthcare sector in Cambridge.
Extending their stay with us this month are many ongoing projects, the most prominent of which still being Bangor to Colwyn Bay design; Goole Swing Bridge (GRIP 6 to 8 stages); separate designs for the Rugeley to Colwich and Welwyn to Hitchin Railway routes; Anderston and Glasgow Central Low Level stations; and large scale works for the Ferrybridge to Goole route. Scotland is currently a hive of activity with various sites across the Country being included in projects ranging from remedial station works and AFA works to ticket vending machine design and white diesel changeover works. Meanwhile, the central belt is home to projects such as asset plans; design for temporary LV supplies, a sliding gate, railway shed, substations and DHL – all of which are at Cadder Yard. Works have begun for the relocation of the DNO cubicle at Barnhill station while CET design and boiler replacements are ongoing at Craigentinny Depot. Works for Barrhead electrification are ongoing; as is our long running involvement with Carstairs rationalisation; LLPA design for multiple Railway sites; design for executive suites in some nearby Railway offices; and Motherwell Station boiler replacement for a new sustainably designed air source heat pump arrangement. Nearer the East coast we have begun GRIP 4-5 design works at Levenmouth; upgrades to the W.C. at Slateford Depot, while the main stations in the capital and Glasgow remain home to design advice for power supplies; retail supplies; retail units design; lighting; and ventilation design for Superloos. Spreading out from the heart of the Country we remain involved with works on the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route; the Dalcross GRIP 4 project; and various projects in Inverness including work stations and axle counters and a railway simulator. Meanwhile the South of the Country has seen station refurbishment works in Troon; and design for a station booking office in Ayrshire. And if Scotland looked busy, our neighbour to the South is up for the challenge with a new stage of works for Tysley Depot; resignalling in the Darlington area; tunnel works at a site in West Yorkshire; and CRE duties for Nevillehill and Heaton Depots. Station platform lighting in Marske and design surrounding the traffic light at Great Glen Station in Leicestershire are gaining momentum while we continue to be involved with works covering compact PSPs; lighting at Hessle Station; design for a subway pump in Goole; reactive involvement on long standing projects at Birmingham and Euston Stations; and design near Widnes.
The commercial sector this month has also remained healthy with mechanical design for a new ophthalmic day theatre; an office refurbishment in Kilsyth; the renovation of a farm building; and design for works at a timber yard near Fort William. We are also still hopefully awaiting confirmation of Port Authority works at varying stages of design and implementation from Fort William in the North, Liverpool in the West and Sheerness in the South East.
We never like to see anybody leave at SVM but this month we have found ourselves saying goodbye to CAD Operator Gavin Morris. He is leaving us for an exciting new life in New Zealand and we wish him all the best for the future. Taking over Gavin’s role in the office, we are pleased to welcome Brendan McGuinness to the team and are looking forward to seeing him grow within the company. We still have possible seats available for one electrical and one mechanical candidate, so if you are an engineer with Railway based electrical or mechanical design experience in a consultancy/contractor setting, then why not get in touch? Please send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk. it might just make your summer!
